“ποταμοῖο ῥέεθρα Ὠκεανοῦ, ὅς περ γένεσις πάντεσσι τέτυκται – the waves of the Ancient River Ocean, from which everything gave birth (Homer, Iliad, canto 14, 245-246)”

Eleni Marneri gallery presents the “BIBLIOTECA VENETA” jewelry collection of the jewelry brand VERBA based in Riga, Latvia by the artist Anna Fanigina on Friday 27 September 2024, 18:00-21:00. The BIBLIOTECA VENETA collection is dedicated to the element of Water and consists of silver jewelry with transparent and blue semiprecious stones, aquamarines, quartz & topaz, which are engraved with words and quotes about the element of water in Latin and Ancient Greek.

The “BIBLIOTECA VENETA” jewelry collection connects philosophy which was born in the city of Athens with the history of Venice, the City on Water .The first references in Philosophy about the element of water were by Thales of Miletus, the first ancient Greek philosopher, who considered water to be the basis of the universe. The collection though, was conceived in Venice because of its name. The Latin word venetus means “the color of sea water, blue, azure,” and the name of the people Veneti has its roots in the Indo-European root wen – “friendly, beloved.” Directly or by coincidence, these meanings are projected onto the name of the city on water — Venice and also its region Veneto. It was in Venice that the collection was born and presented in 2021, and now it is travelling to Athens, the Greek point of inspiration of this collection.

The collection will be presented via a plexiglass installation inside the gallery space, simulating clear blue water with “floating” jewelry with engraved quotes about the element of Water, our “precious”  Water “that flows through the arteries of the universe, synonymous with love and unification.”

*The designer Anna Fanigina will be present at the opening
